Simple Hydraulic Calculator version 2.3.2 has been released. This is a free update for all registered users.

This is a maintenance release that fixes and changes the following:

  • A Pe unit conversion error in the demand pie graph (menu item "View" -> "Demand Graph") has been corrected.
  • An improper unit conversion warning is no longer displayed when a file that uses an equivalent k-factor has it's units changed.

  • The "Popup Helper" no longer suggests the wrong thing when editing within a command line.

Simple Hydraulic Calculator 2.3.1

Simple Hydraulic Calculator version 2.3.1 has been released. This is a free update for all registered users.

This is a maintenance release that fixes and changes the following:

  • The system demand pie graph's elevation pressure has been corrected (menu item "View" -> "Demand Graph").
  • File properties have been added to override the "System Designer" and "Company" SHC Options settings. (See menu item "File" -> "Properties", "Project" tab.)
  • SHC now highlights (as a warning) very short pipe lengths and low minimum sprinkler head discharge values. These warnings do not prevent calculation.
  • Convergence characteristics have been improved for source calculations with steep water supply curves.

Simple Hydraulic Calculator 2.3

Posted by Trevor on August 16, 2010

Simple Hydraulic Calculator version 2.3 has been released! This is a free update for all registered users.

This release measurable improves SHC's ability to find a solution by:

  • Cubic spline interpolation is now used to find the friction factor in the critical region of flow when the Darcy-Weisbach formula is used for friction loss.
  • SHC now adjusts for velocity regardless of flow direction when velocity pressures are used in the hydraulic calculation.
  • SHC will now slightly relax its very strict convergence requirements when these requirements are preventing a successful solution.

SHC has also gained new editor abilities (see the Edit -> Change menu items) and some minor bugs have been squashed.

SHC version 2 Upgrade Information

Posted by Trevor on November 10, 2009

Are you an existing customer of the Simple Hydraulic Calculator version 1.x? The upgrade to version 2 is FREE! Yes, it's FREE!

Originally, this upgrade was planned to cost $129 U.S. But in the current economic climate contractors are hurting ... hurting bad. I know. I have a contracting business. Because of this, I've decided to do what I can to help you out - and making this major upgrade free is what I can do.

Version 2 does require a new registration code and you can expect those to arrive by email within the next few days. If you don't get one then email us and a new registration code will be sent.

Things to know about upgrading to Simple Hydraulic Calculator version 2

  1. SHC version 2 installs as a separate program - it will not overwrite your version 1.x installation or it's data files and you may keep version 1.x installed.
  2. SHC version 2 does not import customized pipe diameters or other settings from your version 1.x installation.
  3. SHC version 2 does a few things differently and has some new options. Take some time to familiarize yourself with these changes. The new Getting Started guide and new Reference Manual can help.
  4. No more version 1.x maintenance releases are planned. Since the upgrade to version 2 is free, I expect everyone to adopt version 2.
